Course Content:
Safe Handling of the DSMB
The PADI DSMB Diver course shows you how to safely deploy an inflatable signal buoy – a ‘Delayed Surface Marker Buoy’ – from depth. This makes your position visible on the surface even before you ascend.
A DSMB is particularly useful in currents, boat traffic, and dives without a fixed ascent reference. Its line can also serve as orientation during a safety stop. PADI also describes these applications as core course content.
What you will learn in the course
You will practice under personal guidance:
- correctly selecting various DSMB models as well as spools and reels
- preparing and checking the equipment before the dive
- deploying the DSMB safely from depth
- safely handling the line and spool
- maintaining your buoyancy while deploying
- performing a controlled ascent and safety stop
- avoiding entanglements and common application errors
The exercises take place during two training dives in the lake. Through personal supervision, we can specifically address your experience and questions.
