Together for coral protection on Roatán

how2dive and Caribbean Reef Guardians – diving together to make a difference.

Anyone who dives experiences the beauty of the underwater world firsthand. But this world is under threat: rising water temperatures, coral diseases, and other environmental pressures are taking their toll on the reefs.

At how2dive, we don’t just want to pass on our passion for diving; we also want to take responsibility for the underwater world. That is why we are partnering with the non-profit organization Caribbean Reef Guardians.

Together, we want to support the protection and restoration of the coral reefs around Roatán in Honduras. Why is this project so close to our hearts? It’s all about personal stories and encounters.

Why Honduras? A matter of the heart.

For Stefan, Honduras is a special place. It’s where he completed his Divemaster and instructor training and spent three months. During this time, he didn’t just get to know the underwater world, but also the islands of Utila and Roatán, the people, and the local way of life.

Honduras has held a special place in his heart ever since. This sparked a desire to give something back and contribute to the preservation of the reefs that shaped his development as a diver and instructor.

Our instructor Susi also shares a personal history with the Caribbean Reef Guardians. A few years ago, she met Chantal, the organization’s founder and CEO, during a liveaboard in the Red Sea. This meeting created a connection that still exists today.

Susi values Chantal’s commitment and is already supporting coral restoration herself: she has since adopted five coral species and a “Rope of Hope.”

For us, the choice was clear: if we were going to commit to coral protection together, it would be with an organization we have a personal connection to and whose work truly convinces us.

Who are the Caribbean Reef Guardians?

The Caribbean Reef Guardians are dedicated to the protection and restoration of Caribbean coral reefs. Around Roatán, they manage coral nurseries and support the recolonization of damaged reef areas.

Their work combines practical marine conservation with education and awareness. Coral gardens and nurseries are just as important as collaborating with people who want to stand up for the future of the reefs.

You can learn more about the organization and its projects on the Caribbean Reef Guardians website.

How you can help

There are various ways to support the work of the Caribbean Reef Guardians – through your dive training, a direct donation, or a sponsorship.

1. Support coral protection with your dive training

With every successfully completed dive course at how2dive, we support the Caribbean Reef Guardians with a donation:

  • 10 euros for every core diving course
  • 5 euros for every specialty course

We pass this amount on to the organization from the course fees. This means your dive training directly supports the protection and restoration of the coral reefs around Roatán.

In this way, your passion for diving also becomes a contribution to preserving the underwater world: you develop your skills while helping to safeguard the reefs.

2. Donate directly

Would you like to support coral protection without taking on a sponsorship? With a direct donation (link), you help the Caribbean Reef Guardians advance their protection, nursery, and restoration projects.

Whether it’s a small amount or larger support – every contribution counts.

3. Adopt a coral or a “Rope of Hope”

With a coral adoption or a sponsorship for a “Rope of Hope,” you support the cultivation of corals and the restoration of damaged reef areas around Roatán.

Coral fragments grow on special nursery ropes. Your sponsorship therefore helps either the corals themselves or the structures needed for their cultivation.

A personal way to express your connection to the sea – also as a special gift for people who care deeply about the underwater world.

What matters to us at how2dive

For us, a love for diving and responsibility for our oceans go hand in hand. Our partnership is therefore intended to achieve more than just financial support: we want to raise awareness of the Caribbean Reef Guardians’ work and show how every individual can get involved.

Stefan’s connection to Honduras and Susi’s meeting with Chantal were just the beginning. Now we want to share this commitment with our students, our customers, and everyone who cares about the underwater world.
